Weighing 595g this new drone has been a game changer for me. I went from a DJI Phantom which made excellent photos and very stable flying to a DJI Mavic Mini which was so much smaller that I could carry it on all hikes but it struggled in nearly any wind and images were poor at time. The DJI Air 2s is heavier than the Mavic Mini but handles stronger wind than the Phantom and produces incredible footage.
The Air 2s comes with some excellent built in QuickShots and MasterShots which will take video automatically whilst flying preprogrammed routes/moves. It has all the expected photography modes including Single Shot, Timed Photo, AEB (Auto Exposure Bracketing), HDR, Panoramas and Hyperlapses. There is also a new SmartPhoto mode that records full-resolution photos using scene analysis and deep learning to automatically choose the best of three options – HDR, Hyperlight and Scene Recognition – for your photo. My only niggle would be the size and weight of the controller which doesn’t fold down and doesn’t have a built in screen. If DJI made an upgraded controller, I’d seriously consider that purely to reduce the weight in my hiking rucksack.
Other than that, what’s not to like! Small, lightweight, flies very well in windy conditions, avoids trees and buildings and takes awesome videos. I can charge the batteries using my large Anker battery pack and have separate semi hard cases to make it easier to pack inside a rucksack.
